Lookin' for love (in all the wrong places)

Sat Jan 3, 2009, 3:33 PM
<Warning, The following is a personal rant that has nothing to do with my art>

Well, I'm going to be 25 soon. I've always wanted to be a family man, but I'm starting to think that's just not for me. I had a long and meaningful relationship back in high school, that ultimately ended up with me and my girl friend becoming just friends.

Sense then, I've never even really seen another woman that I've wanted to start a relationship with. I think it's because of where I live. Let me set one thing strait, I'm not racist. However, regardless of this, a -vast- majority of the women I live around are black. Stereotypical black. All they want is a man to fund thier ability to shop and do nothing while they pump out kid after kid. I don't understand why anyone would want this, but that's what they want, it blows my mind.

The few(two) white girls where I work are both married, not counting the Project Manager, but I couldn't have a relationship with her because she's my boss's boss's boss and that sort of thing is frowned upon. And I think she's married to, I don't know *Boggle*

I guess what I'm saying is that I want to look for a girl friend, but there's none to be had where I live. This brings me to an interesting crossroads of options. I could get a new job, and move elsewhere in the hope that some more desirable ladies are there to be courted, or, I could try finding someone online. Seeing as I don't have any personal transportation and must rely on everyone else to get me from place to place, I don't really see this working. Actually, now that I think about it, I guess the personal transportation thing kinda kills the 'new job elsewhere' thing too. Guess I'm stuck then. I'm glad I took the time to write this, I guess I should get my car working before I look for a girl fried.

And probably learn to be more sociable too.

There's always online networking sites :)

And if there's no decent public transit around its always better to live in an area that does have it -- and merely say you're being environmentally friendly. I mean heck you still do have a car, but you're being all eco and stuff *grins*

Nothing wrong with pub-trans, if it's available. Or, if you don't want to drive, get a bicycle. Or learn to ride a motorcycle. Nothing says 'sexy' more than black leathers and a couple hundred horsepower between your knees.

As for the girls that you're around/working with, have you talked to them? There just might be a diamond in the rough when it comes to goals in life - while most may want a husband who works his ass off and a brood of kids, there might (!) be someone, black, white, Hispanic, Asian, Indian, whatever... that wants a partner in life, and then family and the picket fence as a bonus rather than the goal.

As for eco-friendly cities, try Seattle. It's amazing in how much cool stuff there is to do and how easy it is to get around. Plus there's employment to be had, from entry-level gigs on up to really nice-paying jobs. It's lush and green and surrounded by beautiful country, too. Portland's also on the list, as is Santa Fe or Denver. Dallas... not so much, but still a cool place. San Francisco is expensive, but if you can hack the living costs it's great.

As far as public transportation goes, we have buses around here, but that have rather sad hours of operations, so I tend to have to rely on my roomie and x-roomie to get me to and from work. This has been the case for a while. The pub-trans also costs a simply restrictive amount of cash to a proven person like myself.

Now here's the thing with work. I work in a call center. I'm tech support for AT&T (at the moment, that's going to change starting next Monday, and I couldn't be happier.) and I'm also in a position where I get to help other agents in the call center as well as listen to them on their calls. I've coached many of these agents on empathy and sounding like they care. If there's a diamond in the rough out there, the rough is her outer shell, and I'd rather not be involved with someone who treats others around her like garbage, even if she's very kind to me.

I've thought about moving many times, but it's really a scary thing. I moved half way across the state I live in and have all but lost contact with even my closest friends. I somewhat blame Bush and his not doing anything about gas prices, but that's me. I had to borrow about 1,000 dollars to rent a U-haul and move things to where I live, I can't even imagine the costs of moving out to a place like Seattle. Not that I'm looking for an excuse not to try it, it's more a matter of just not having the means right now.

Who knows, though. Maybe one day I'll start being able to save up some cash and see more of the US. I already know I -don't- want to raise a kid in South Carolina. Education around here is just plain terrible. Only time will tell.

This isn't a public networking site :o

Just kidding.

I'm always hesitant to look into sites like that, mostly because I don't have a lot to offer in the respects of outward appearance. Broke, out of shape, and messy, I wouldn't really present a good front for most of the people I've seen in my life.

Then again, I guess networking sites are there to try and introduce me to people I've -not- seen in my life. Hmmm...

So clean up a little bit for the photo :)

Tech support for AT&T, huh?

If you don't mind my asking, what product? because I used to perform (and instruct) Tier 2 DSL support, I did QA auditing on Tier 1 DSL support, and now I'm in Server operations for AT&T U-Verse (Midwest/West Coast).

I think we had yakked about this before when we first met. I'm on the customer ownership team for DSL trouble shoot, but I'm out sourced, so I'm treated (and payed) like absolute crap. ...for another day. Yay!
:iconprofessorblues:
Ahhhh, yes.

You're probably one of the ones I got to listen to on the phone on occasion.

*shrugs* They laid me off from that job, probably because I kept saying "more training, better pre-qualification screening, and stop outsourcing to India because the customers HATE it when you do that."

And now I do U-Verse Server Ops. I never talk to customers now. Or listen to them. :D

Funny you should say that. I hear the customer service reps don't ether. *Rimshot*
